The Importance of a Support System

February 27, 2010

One of the most important things to a mother is having a strong support system. This can include a supportive partner, an extended family, babysitters, support groups, neighbors and friends. Mothers need people in their lives that they can trust, whether it’s a confidante or someone who can help out with the children in a moment’s notice.

There are many reasons that every mother should have a strong support system. One of the biggest reasons is to minimize isolation. For first-time stay-at-home Moms, this is crucial. There are many mothers who don’t have a local network of friends and family, due to various situations such as relocating to a new city or town. And feeling isolated can also be a little terrifying when you’re in the middle of a crisis. Not being able to have a back-up when needed, can really test a mother’s confidence.

Remember, the key to eliminating mother-related anxiety and stress, is to know what resources you have available. Having a strong support system will always help in a time of crisis.

How strong is your support system? Take some time to write about it in your journal.

A Mother’s Sacrifices

February 19, 2010

I ran across this quote today by Tenneva Jordan. It speaks to the sacrifices we make as mothers.

“A mother is a person who seeing there are only four pieces of pie for five people, promptly announces she never did care for pie.”

What sacrifices have you made as a mother? ~ Take some time to write about it in your journal.

Celebrating You This Valentine’s Day

February 14, 2010

Most of the messages coming our way this time of year are to “be someone else’s valentine.” But what if we took this opportunity to be our own valentine?

With the moon in its new moon phase, it’s a perfect opportunity to connect with the one who can truly bring love into your life - YOU! ~ Your well-being - emotionally, mentally, physically and spiritually - depends on you.

And this particular Valentine’s Day coincides with the New Moon in the astrological sign of Aquarius - the sign of genius and innovation. This makes it an ideal time to honor the inner goddess within you, celebrating her wisdom and intuition.

This Valentine’s Day, write yourself a love letter.

What is it that you love about yourself? What is it that you love about being you?

Take some time to honor yourself by showing your gratitude in a letter. And when you’re done, decorate the letter and tuck it inside your journal or put it in a special place.

And when you’re feeling low, pull out the letter and read it. It’ll serve as a reminder of how wonderful you truly are.

Happy Valentine’s Day to YOU!

Telling an Untold Story

February 8, 2010

As a journal writer, how does this quote by Maya Angelou resonate with you?

“The most unbearable agony is carrying an untold story.”

Take some time to write about this in your journal.
